Did anyone in the group bid on this plane?
Looks like it might be re-listed. If you are interested in it please let me know.
    Hank

It is NOT my plane or listing, but it sure looks like a nice basket case and I have been in contact with the seller.

No, owner is considering re-listing because the buyer never closed the deal. Her father was looking to restore it himself but didn't know about the Tribe. He is considering if he should try to rebuild himself again now that he knows he wouldn't have to go it alone.
Either way we may have a new 40 model in the group in the future. I just wondered if one of the first bidders was a Tribe member, and if so, and it gets re-listed, wanted him/her to know it was back on the market.

Cool, thanks Hank. I did not bid on it but started to. I was a little hesitant to give much for it without any paperwork and it being a good distance away.

It looks like it was a foreign buyer and it will be going to France. Maybe we will get a new member from there. I will let all know the results if I can.

The above Taylorcraft BL-65 N27616 was wrecked at Bedford, PA on July 14, 1998, by a good friend of mine. Unfortunately, he had some "paperwork" deficiencies at the time, e.g. Medical certificate, Biennial Flight Review, Aircraft Registration, recency of experience logged, etc. His daughter-in-law was the passenger, and was slightly injured in an "off-airport landing", soon after take-off. He thought he was making a precautionary landing in a suitable field, due to oil running out all over the cowling and windshield, but unfortunately hit some unseen rough terrain and flipped over. Turns out it was only a loose oil filler cap, and a return to the airport could have been made. The Feds make some inquiries to me at the time about the pilot, as I had given him instruction, and recommmendation, for his Private Pilot Certificate, as well as several subsequent BFR's. His Certificate was suspended for 180 days as a result of this accident. The aircraft was a very pretty recent restoration by my friend Dave Liebegott, who restored several Taylorcrafts and Cubs, PA-12's, Colts, Tri-Pacers, etc., some of them award winners at Oshkosh, Sentimental Journey, etc., and was very nice. I had given Dave some of his early lessons on rebuilding and fabric covering; he worked with me on my own Taylorcraft as part of his learning process. Dave went on to do some really outstanding work. Dave passed away a couple years ago now. Dave's own personal Taylorcraft BC12-D was sold by his son, and is owned by another friend, and is kept here near Altoona, PA at the 7G4 airport. Its new owner is currently getting some tailwheel ionstruction in that ship. The top-referenced BL-65 should be a good project for its new owner. Its log books might be available from the then-owner's son, through the right channels.

                  Paul,
I have been talking to the seller for some time and would appreciate any info you have on how to contact the son. Can you PM me? It would be nice to get "the paper with the plane" on this one. As you inferred, this is a really nice project. Wish I could have afforded it. Maybe we can have a GB and a French branch.
