  • Sun Visor

Hello to everyone, I have been an avid reader of the forums and up to know have been able to glean the information I have been looking for. I have a 1946 BC-12D with a C90 and EDO 1400 floats. I have managed to install a hand held radio, new antenna, replace a worn canvas sling seat, replace foam in my seat to high density, patch a float, shoulder harnesses etc etc from the experienced owners on this forum....But now I have reached a point where I must ask a question.
I have been finding recently that my return flights from evening fishing (in Northwestern Ontario) have me landing into the setting sun and would like to install some sort of sun visor in my plane. I am hoping others may have gone down this road and can offer some suggestions? Has anyone installed a glare/sun visor in their T-crafts?

    Thanks...

    Re: Sun Visor

Not exactly a sun visor, but there is a tinted piece of plastic you can stick on the windshield right where the sun is coming through that works pretty good. Of course you have to move it around when you change course or move it a little as the sun moves when you are flying straight, but it works pretty well. Just don't be trying to get it in the perfect position instead of flying the approach. If you were doing a series of practice landings I would think you could set it up the first time around and just move it a little based on where the sun was getting close to the edge from one landing to the other.

If that doesn't appeal to you how about a piece of tinted plastic attached to a spring clamp so you could just clamp it to the tubes over the glare shield. You couldn't hit every spot, but about 8" square would be able to cover a lot and be easy to move.

      Hank,

Kind of reminds me of the sun shield we used to clip to the antennas of our R/C transmitter while flying sailplanes in the 70's. You would just need a little bigger clip for the fuselage tubing.
      Cheers,
