  • Fuel Valve

The fuel shut-off valve in my L2-B is leaking. Fortunately the military thought that this was a significant or perhaps recurring enough problem that the L2 has a scupper under the valve which leads to an overboard drain coming out of the left side of the boot cowl. It works very nicely and keeps the fuel valve from dripping in the cabin onto the floor or your lap. I have rebuilt the valve and changed the o'ring and it still leaks. I suspect that the culprit may be the steel pin that is in the brass valve that keeps the valve from rotating too much past the port. It appears that it may be soldered and perhaps over the years of use it has become loose and is the source of my leak.
Can this be repaired by silver soldering? Is the fuel valve the same as the BC main or aux tank valve (less the handle, of course)? Even if I can repair this one I would like to pick up a spare. Can anyone give me some info as to where I can get another (new or used) one. Call me At 907-399-7437 or e-mail me at "jpbp at alaska dot net".

      Re: Fuel Valve

Whoever this guy is he seems to have a never ending supply of these valves. He has been selling them for many weeks now. Some going for over $200.

        Re: Fuel Valve

        drude,
Are you sure that this valve fits the L2? It looks different than the one that is in the airplane. The one in the airplane does not have mounting ears and it is remotely operated by a lever on the sidewall. The valve handle is connected to an actuating rod and the clocking is such that the fuel is "off" when the valve handle pointer is at approximately the 4:30 position and the "on" position is at approximately the 7:30 position. I believe that the valve on e-bay has the clocking at the twelve or six o'clock and the three or nine o'clock position depending on how it's mounted. I don't know whether the L2 valve is different altogether or just has a special handle. The handle looks just like a regular Imperial valve handle except that it has a piece welded on it to accommodate the push-pull rod attachment. I don't mind getting a new valve, I just want to be sure that I get one that I can use. Any L2 gurus out there who have experience with the fuel valve in question please let me know.

          Bob,

I'm trying to remember if there was any difference from my L-2's to BC-12's. The ears are usually just cut off, so that isn't an issue. I know there are a couple of guys that could jump in that would know so I hope they chime in.
          Cheers,
