  • Maiden flight

Well after 2 years of hard work I made the maiden flight today. I have a few questions my plane is a 1946 and on climb out I was showing 2100 rpm and 80MPH once I leveled out the RPM came up to 23 - 2400 RPM. I have been flying my grumman for awhile and man what a difference. Is this normal RPM for this aircraft with a Cont A65? I'm not sure about the speed indication either cause during let down I slowed it way down or what felt way down and it stayed at 80mph and I never looked back at it during the landing phase, how do you check to make sure the indicated airspeed is correct?

    Ray,

I really haven't looked at the tach during climb-out, it is off a little anyway. My climb-out is around 65 or so. Approach is 60. Too fast and you beat yourself trying to get it down. Level flight at full throttle can exceed engine redline of 2,300 rpm. I have a Sensenich wood in 42 pitch.

I did reattach my static line during my interior re-do. It was plugged so I cleared it. My low speeds stayed the same but my cruise is now more correct with the GPS.

By the way, congrats on taking flight again!!!
    Cheers,
    Marty

What my tach shows on climb out. Once level comes up to 2300 before reducing power to cruise. My airspeed is a little off but GPS shows I get 85-90 at 2150. Have a sensenich 74-46 metal prop, A65... Congratulations on being airborne!

Your RPM sounds correct. If the speed stayed at 80 you might have a plugged pitot or static line or a problem with your A/S.
