Anyone have the part number for a Lebow (sp) gas cap for the main 12 gal tank up front?

Would save me a lot of measuring and searching on their site. I recently received 2 of their wing tank caps and they look like pretty good items.

I just did a search after posting this, and I'll look at the Cub Wag Aero one in the catalog. Still could use the above information as I have already made up a brass float and rod from a Ford Aircraft Sales part.

    Flyguy.

I got my new one from Wag. Check their catalog. I had the cork type and after finding some pieces of cork in the gascolator, decided to go with the metal float.

I painted the float stick in gloss black and marked it in quarter tanks, with the last quarter in red. The half tank mark shows a larger white mark...approx 6 gals to go or 1 Hour....with some spare. The start looking mark. Painted the gas cap in gloss red; same as the wing tanks.

    Hopes this helps

      Hi Ralph,
Do you happen to have the part number for the metal float type cap?
      Thanks,

Ralph, ditto on Hal's question. I thought all I saw in the WA catalog was a cork float??

What we have on the end of our wire is a pair of ping pong balls. They have been on there for years now. Poke the wire through and seal with JB Weld and it's a long life solution that won't leave cork chunks in the tank. I have no idea what those balls are made of but they are unaffected by mogas or avgas. (we use both but no alcohol)

              Darryl & Hal:

My A&P IA got me straight yesterday. I stand Corrected. We bought the replacement cork from Wag and installed it. He later got a project which had a float gas cap, which we traded. Sorry for my senior moment there.

He also mentioned, that typically A&Ps and even owners would weld a carburetor floater in replacement of the cork. The one a I have is approx. 2 1/2" by 1" by 1". I keep it out of the fuel by using a cloth hanging pin suspending the floater up, as if the fuel tank was full, while the plane is at rest.

              Hope this works.

                Re: gas cap

I have the old cork float but I also have a car gas cap that can't let water run down the cork wire. I painted the cap bright red and whenever I am doing a pre-flight I remove the red cap and put in the fuel cork cap. The fuel cork cap rests on the boot cowl behind the red cap in the hangar. That way the cork doesn't sit in fuel all the time and will probably last forever. I have never forgotten to put the right cap on for flight since it will fall off if you pull the plane out or open the cowl. I figure if I ever took off with the red cap, I probably never intended to come back. ;-)

That said, I AM getting older so I plan to put a bright colored "remove before flight" flag on the red cap that will flap all over the windshield. If I ever forget, it is time for me to stop flying

                  Re: gas cap

So anyone know where I can get a gas cap that will fit the main (front) tank? I have new one from Tractor and Aircraft supply, but it has a big rivet right in the center where I want to drill a hole.

I see a couple of caps of the right diameter on the Lebow-Eaton site, but they have a weird-looking bump in the middle and I actually have no way of knowing if they would fit anyway.

                  Help! Chuckle.

The boys do tend to get off the subject, don't they? Try Wag-Aero or Univar. J-3 cap should fit.

                      DC,

Though I have not had time yet to mess with these, look at this thread. I found a source for the caps, but you would have to braze on tabs and the tube. Wire can be stainless welding rod. Hopefully I can get to these, but I will tell you the caps are exactly the same as stock '46 T-Craft because it is the same company.

                        Re: gas cap

Well as I said I just received 2 wing tank caps from L/E Caps n Necks in So Cal., but they fit the wing tanks only. The cap that fits the front tank on mine is bigger. Frankly I don't remember if the caps on my two previous BC-12's were different sizes or not.

On this one the front tank cap is approximately 2-7/8 inch diameter. That is considerably larger than the wing ones. Is this normal, or do I have an odd-ball here? Strangely enough the bigger cap is stamped Eaton in small print on the under side.

Any other sources of just the cap by itself, no gauge wire or other stuff.

Guess I can do a general search online.

                          Darryl,

All the necks on all the tanks should be the same size. Someone may have replaced the neck on your tank during a repair. Hopefully you can find a similar replacement and just make a new one. It took me awhile to find the original cap, but they were helpful and sent me the specs of the cap when I found it. Good luck!
                          Cheers,
