Re: Taylorcraft nc43338
I have a friend who retired from flying Saturday. We went to lunch for his final PIC flight. Good crosswind (for california) so the landing wasn't pretty. He decided that perhaps that was a better final landing than a good one. He is 81, could pass the physical, but knows he dosen't fly enough to stay proficient. Hope I'm as smart as him when it's time to hang it up. I'm not sure he wants to fly around in a small Taylorcraft but I will find out. I'm sure you will make the right decision JC. Happy Trails either way.L Fries

Re: Taylorcraft nc43338
Gentleman, I had the distinct pleasure of having dinner with an Alaskan gentleman just 6 years ago in Anchorage. He told me this coming spring would be his last flight in his C-172 to his cabin on his own hand carved strip about a 150 miles outside of town. I asked why; he told me he would turn 92 in March, this was in in Jan. of 2005. He had immigrated to Alaska in 1939 and never left. He decided to learn to fly at 72; he had to, as it was getting too hard to hike the 75 miles in to his cabin every year. True story! His reason for quiting flying was, his depth perception was going away.

PS: I asked if he had ever shot a bear! He said, quote "I've only shot two bear since 39. Both grizzly, both on his sofa in his living room, both came in late fall looking for food! His nephew is a friend of mine working the great NW."I'm from the FAA and we're not happy, until your not happy."
