  • looking for supplier references on purchased B model seat cushion sets

    Hi all,

Where are folks purchasing seat cushion replacement on B models?

I am looking for supplier references on purchased seat sets.

At this time I am not interested in advice or comments about how to make them or where to get materials.

Just interested in buying a finished set ready to drop in set.

It is time for new ones on my plane.

Are there any vendors/suppliers that you have had good results from when buying their cushions?

    Any that had bad results?

    Anybody used Airtex?

    Thanks, Dave.

My 1946 BC12-D has an Airtex interior. Headliner, seats, everything. Apperently installed in 1991 by a previous owner when the stitts was put on the outside.

Top quality. I use a sheet of plywood in the sling under the seats to firm up the ride. I have done 4-hour legs without too much butt-sprung syndrome. The seats fit well and ride well.
    One recommendation.

Which "D" model are you talking about? There is always some confusion about the designations and a lot of people (even here) think when they say "D model" they are talking about a BC12-D, BF12-D or BL12-D. Taylorcraft actually produced a line of TANDEM planes that were the "D" models. Those include the L-2 series.
IF you are looking for B?12-65 or B?12-D seats I have a GREAT upholsterer who has my patterns. There is an L-2 at Suffolk and he may be willing to loan his seats to measure of a pattern unless you have the old seats from yours.

While attending the annual Taylorcraft fly-in at Columbia, CA a few years ago, I had the opportunity to sit in Jim Meeker's BC12D. He had retrofitted it with Oregon Aero seat cushions. The difference in comfort level from the seat in my plane was amazing. I would not have believed a Taylorcraft could be that comfortable if I hadn't sat in his plane. I have heard that their seats are expensive, but if you are seeking comfort, you might want to give them a call. They are located at Scapoose Airport in Scapoose, Oregon. Jim if you are lurking out there today, maybe you could shed more light on Oregon Aero seats.

Well I did get new cushions from Airtex.

They allowed me to custom fit the foam prior to upholstering them. They sent me the foam and I marked it up and returned it. I included a picture of the marked up foam and my sketch of the seat sling "sag"

I made the foam fit the seat sling and included some pictures of the finished bottom cushion in an attempt to show the resulting stepped or "curved" bottom.

When you sit on it the seat bottom remains flat without any need for plywood or other supports. Its nice.

              I am happy with them.
