Knee surgery is the most painful thing I have ever done. Hank, repeat after me "I want more Lortab"!

So woah cool - did you get a new plastic knee or just a repair on existing parts? If you got a plastic knee are you sure all the ADs and Service bulletins are current? Did the doctor file a 337 or was this only a minor repair?

Thought I should try and get a message out. I sneak out to the computer whenever I can, but Debbie is doing her best to keep me grounded and flat on my back. Did you ever notice the number of patterns you can see in a "popcorn" sprayed ceiling? Also how HEAVY even a paperback book gets when you have to hold it over your face while on your back?
What I had done was repair to two cartilage tears and removal of two cysts that formed under the knee cap between the bones. Be REALLY CAREFUL on those stinking aluminum cigar tubes the airlines fly. They have decreased the seat pitch and the Jack Ass in front of me bashed my knees three times before I could convince him there wasn't anyplace for my legs to GO so he could recline his seat. The hits damaged the cartilage and it tore loose several days later. Also got a "haircut" of all the shredded ligaments so it won't sound like I am walking on potato chips when I go up and down the stairs.
I am hoping I won't have to get the left one done too, but if Obama gets his way with health care I may need to push for it while I can get it. I don't take pain meds so HIS solution isn't going to work well for me.
Anyway, I really appreciate you guys thinking of me and I will try to keep you up on what its going on. Good time for you guys to remember anything I owe anybody. ;-) Weather has been BEAUTIFUL here and there is no work on my job. Perfect time to work on finishing my plane, and I can't even drive to get to the airport. Oh well. I am getting a start on digitizing all of the records on my plane. If you think a paperback gets heavy, try a LAPTOP!

Hank... I'm glad you're still kicking!! Get healed really quick. My mom had knee replacement some years ago and it seems she recovered well as long as she did all of the therapy exercises. When she got lax on them she ended up getting really stiff and had some setbacks. Thats my advice from her experience. I expect at my weight it is a matter of time and I will be getting some sort of knee surgery, so let us know how everything goes. Are you off work for a while? Maybe you could sneak away for a trip to TX for the fly-in at the end of this month!

Not a replacement, just an overhaul. Before the surgery I was told to exercise to build up the muscles in my knees. They asked what kind of exercise program I was on and I said I just walk, bicycle (rarely) and climb stairs. They couldn't understand how I could be in good shape for my age and not work out. I
just started wearing a "FitBit" that measures activity. The day before I saw him I had gone up and down 24 flights of stairs. He seemed to think that was a lot. I live in a two story house with an Irish Setter. He WON'T LET me sit down. Since the surgery he has set on the bed and "guarded" me. We had thunderstorms here and he snarled at the window through the whole thing. Pretty good protection.
Can't talk much. Debbie is going to catch me out of bed again. I swear she has eyes in the back of her head! Tomorrow I get the pressure bandages off! Can't wait.
