Had a chance recently to do some ski flying during the Iron Dog Race. This is an Alaska snowmachine race from Big Lake (near Wasilla) to Nome to Fairbanks. Riders race in teams of (2) and the winners cover over 2,000 miles in just under 36 hours of riding. Winners claim title to the world's longest and toughest snowmachine race and a first prize purse of $50,000.
Some friends and I flew out to the Shell Lake and Puntilla Lake check-points to watch the first teams pass through on their way up into the Alaska Range and Rainy Pass.
Fun day of ski flying!
