I screwed up!

I spent an hour last night looking closely at the fuselage damage to NC20407 and really regret not buying Jim Herpst’s fuselage when I had the chance!

Several months ago, I purchased a rear RH wing attach fuselage cluster with the intent of sleeving it in, in place of the damaged cluster and tubing. The cluster came from a BC-12D and close examination reveals it to be very different from my 1938. My prewar has the top longeron continuing thru the rear cluster in a smooth continuous line. The purchased cluster has an abrupt angle at the rear cluster which “flattens” the top longeron over the cabin (to be slightly angled down towards the ground). The change of line happens in the cluster itself, so it’s not like I can bend the tube to look decent. This and the spliced on tail section(rear 6’) really makes me wish that I now had a replacement fuselage. Does anyone know where another prewar fuselage may be for sale? Any suggestions on someone near Madison, WI. who might have experience to look at the project and offer options?

Mike do not feel too bad. What you really need is a 1940 or prior. Mine was a 1941 and if you built her back as a 1941 you would have been ok (and it had the paperwork to do just that) BUT it would not be the same fuselage as the 1938. You would have needed the 15 ribs also. In fact the gentleman that bought her will be using parts from his dads 1941 BF that has a twisted fuslage and bring mine bach as it was with the BC12 . There are differences like the trim as this one was/is a deluxe model with the built in elevator trim. You will be ok there are several prewar fuselages floating around out there.

For what its worth, I bought a used wing attach bracket from Clint Barnes and it was in great shape, as advertised. I media blasted it, epoxy primed, and it bolted right in... perfect fit. So I give Clint a 5-star rating. I haven't met him in person. Wills Point is about 2.5 hours from me. I am not headed that way anytime soon, but if you can't find anyone else to go, let me know and I will see if I can make it up there.
