  • looking for old (cheap) turd radio

    Speaking of Radios for sale...

I'm looking for something I can put in my shop to monitor Unicom. If you have a turd radio around that you would like to donate, or sell for a cheap price let me know.

      Bob,
I think that I have an old handheld King KX-99.
Would that be useful to you?

I might have a KX-170 that only receives and doesn't transmit. (and I think I have one that only transmits and doesn't receive.) Anyway, if you have a 12v power supply (or battery) that may work. I am out of state now but can check on it upon my return.

The guy in the hangar next to mine has had one (turned on all the time) for the last few years. Evidently they last a LOOOOONG time if they are left on. Let me know if it is a 12V one. There are some simple ways to make up a power supply to run them. Easiest way is an old car battery and one of those little float chargers. Even a dead battery seems to work pretty well (one that won't hold a charge under load, not one with a shorted cell!).
