    Wing ribs

lktiller, Do you know what size the rivits are used for the built up ribs. I'll be doing lots of repair work if I try to use the ribs I have. Every rib needs some type of repair. Bent ,cracked, smashed,a couple broken completely in half. Billy Cave

        Wing spars

I am rebuilding my F19 and am looking for spars. I'm also new at this computer stuff. Just thought I would post a message and see if I can get any leads. thanks.

            Wing Spars

            3696T,
Aircraft Spruce is pretty reliable at getting spar material but it sometimes takes a few weeks(3-6 weeks)depending on the waiting list at the time.Or you could try Big Sky Aviation,I'm told they are very friendly to work with and I have always heard good things about them but I have never delt with them personally.

to Billy Cave and rib repair,
That's been five years so I'll have to look up my notes. AN470 comes to mind. Same diameter as original. Various lengths depending on the total thickness of material. AC 43:13 for reference. AP/IA says overlap 1.5 inches & put 4 rivets in it for the cap strip splice.

'C' yoke rivet squeezer. grind one side of die down to fit up under the cap strip.
Oversize rivets were necessary in a few places.

Don't use steel wool. Scrub with brass (not steel) brush, get as much corrosion off as possible, clean and dry. Etch only if necessary. Cut corrosion out and splice if needed.

Aluminum Etch & Cleaner aircraft spruce 09-00473 was used to dissolve the corrosion in the very hard to get to areas. Or Phosphoric Acid. Wicked stuff. use sparingly. Follow directions, use only on the corroded areas. Clean throughly. Clean throughly.

ALUMI-DYNE E-2311 aircraft spruce 09-40550 is used to re-treat the bare aluminum. Turns fingers yellow! Easy to use, wash throughly. Treat the entire rib structure, not just the places etched.

Then spray with zinc-oxide primer. zinc-chromate is not lung-friendly.

I would suggest a two-pack epoxy prime, because any single-pack primer (zinc-chromate, etc) will be dissolved by any contact with Superseam, Poly-Tak, etc. The cured epoxy is inert to chemical attack, but needs careful health & safety measures (as indeed do the others to which Larry refers).
