  • Insurance Denied

    Tribe:
I just found out more roadblocks have been put in place to keep us from flying in this country.
I've flown for over 60 yrs, bought insurance, mostly liability, for most of those years, and never made a claim, never had an
    accident.
I just renwed my policy on my DC-65, and found the following new restrictions have been added.
    1. I must have had a class III medical exam within a year of the date of any flight.
    2. I must have had a flight review check within a year of any flight.
    3. The flight review must be taken in the MAKE AND MODEL shown on the policy, in this case a DC-65 Taylorcraft.
    4. The person giving the flight review must have 25 logged hours in that MAKE AND MODEL.
This puts me in a real bind. I'm already illegal because last January when I took my flight review, we used the instructor's Cessna 150 because it was cold and the heater doesn't do much in the T-Craft. I doubt seriously he has 25 hours in a DC-65,(who has besides me), so I guess the only solution is to loan my plane to him and let him fly it for a week.
The truth behind all this is that they are trying to get rid of all policy holders who are 75 years of age or older.
Well, flying was fun while it lasted!

      WHO NEEDS INSURANCE???

Chet, my "other" Taylorcraft is an Avenger ultralight. ( Think high strut braced wing, 40 H.P. 4 stroke tractor engine, tri-gear with brakes, mildly aerobatic, 28MPH stall, 150 Ft. Takeoff roll, same for landing, 15,000 Ft. ceiling, and NO INSURANCE. Also, no annuals, no A&Ps needed, etc. etc.. The photo that I have included is before I put the A-084-3 Continental GPU on the plane. YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO FLY.

That would get him flying; but it wouldn't get him what he wants; flying this Tcraft. - Mike

          Insurance denied

Tribe: I was told, in confidence, by a person inside the industry that the purpose of these new restrictions was two-fold. One was to get rid of all the over 75 policy holders, the second was to apply thse special restrictions to the new Sport Pilot categories.

Going without insurance has some merit in my case. My eldest son is one of the best defense lawyers in the country, and my youngest is pretty good too. If people sue me, they will just be taking away my kids inhieritance, (if they can).

            Insurance

Chet, You haven't said what insurance company. I'd be very interested. P.M. your reply if you don't want to go on the forum though I think we'd all like to know what's in store for us down (not so far down for some of us) the road.
