What did you pay for NDT inspection of struts?

I am curious as to what people are paying for strut inspections. Not the whole process, just what gets paid to the facility doing the x-ray or ultrasonic inspection. Thanks

I paid the 1600.00 for new ones and I will never have to deal with it again....In anchorage its around 250.00 on the aircraft. Tim

First time, $100.00, ultrasound, on the aircraft. This year $125 for just 2 struts as I had to replace the front ones 4 years ago.

Green bay, WI Great Lakes Testing ...$50 per strut off the plane.

Just had ours done. Ultrasonic off the plane = $220.00 in Atlanta, GA

I paid $250.00 and three of them failed the test. It was like buying birdseed for a dead canary

I paid 175.00 for 4 to be x-rayed and 3 failed a buddy had the 4 he took off his plane so I had them x-rayed as well and was lucky enough to come up with 4 good one and even better it was a full set. They only charged me 250.00 to do all 8 so only 75 bucks more for the second 4 and that was here in Wichita Ks. 2 of mine were marginal and one was bad I have them standing on end but really don't know what I will do with them.

Did you use UT.Insp.? Also did you strip the paint? I have found it makes a differanceif you are getting bad readings

if bad paint is making a difference in your readings you might have other questions....the sound reflection for the suspected rust would be on the back wall reflection and not the reflection seen in paint...the paint would also be in the near field making it really kind of hard to even detect....there would or should also be the option of running an angle beam test thus gaining a larger soundpath....

If i had some struts that tested bad, i think i would consider cutting the ends off one and looking inside for myself to see what the problem was, if any. Marv

We cut one in in half and found it to be like new inside. Then we stripped the paint off in the afected area and tested again no trouble found. Apparently paint unadhears and ut picks up on it and shows thin spots. The paint looked fine. I have found this on more than one set of struts .

Two to three hours to grid and inspect them (ultrasonic)
