    Re: 1940 b?12

When this plane first went up for sale by the prior Texas owner it was out of my price range. I later learned from the current owner the gentleman passed away suddenly and the wife lowered the price considerably. I would love to own this plane that both of my parents flew during the war.
    Cheers,
    Marty

        Re: 1940 b?12

Little bit of info I just found. On prewar Cubs with single ignition they used a switch called a Farmall ignition switch. In the picture I saw it was the metal knob version but the plastic knob was also available and that knob looks like the one in some panel pictures in the top right hole of the rectangular panel cover.
Anyone know if this was the mag switch used originally? Sorry the photos are so small but they are all I could find.

I was about to post the same question, so thanks for starting this thread Hank.

If those Farmall mag switches were what was used I am betting I can make a new one with a Bendix key switch and the original knob so you need a key to start but the panel looks original when you are at an airshow.

              Hank,

That is exactly what the Bakers did with their '41. I found an online article on doing just that. I will have to try and find it again. I am sure if Tom sees your post he will comment.
              Cheers,
              Marty

That is EXACTLY what I did for my 45 (based on Toms verbal description). I modified the concept some to make it work with my 41 mag switch (found a bad one that was just like the ones in some old pictures). I will have to post the pictures when I am on my other computer. I am trying to figure out how to do the same thing with the switch for the 40.
