Re: Cub v.s. Taylorcraft airfoil performance

I had a friend build up clipped Taylorcraft wings to put on his Vagabond.
Same wingspan as original, just different airfoil.
The trailing edge ended up about 3 inches higher than the originals
and required a rather novel fairing.
The airplane was marginally faster. It lacked the previous
takeoff or landing performance. He thought that the angle
of incidence needed some major changes. He took the illegal
wings off after a few years. The Taylorcraft wings were all wood and
he said they came from a L-2.

Hi Dave.I remember that airplane. He did a nice job as I recall.Went to a chili fly-in where he had it based at that time ,and he took off and flew it ,and appeared as though it was cruising pretty fast when he went around.Wanted to talk to him but he didnt come back before I left for home myself.

        Hi Mike,
That's the one. Dick is gone now so the statue of limitations
is up, I think. Interesting guy, PHD in a earlier life, wasn't
        afraid to try most anything.

Yeah, but when you strip a screw hole you can fix it with plastic wood...

On every 100 hour inspection we used to place bets on whether or not the trim wheel would get snapped off.
