  • Taylorcraft Fly-in in Iowa

I and the other pilots at our airport would like to have a Taylorcraft fly-in at our airport in the summer of 2012. At this time I would like some feed back from some of you as to Who has interest in coming? and what would be the best time of the summer to have it.

Our airport is I75 (Osceola) about an hour South of Des Moines on Interstate 35. We have 7 Taylorcrafts on the field, including the one made for Dorothy Farris pictured in Chet Pecks book. We have 4000' of paved runway as well as a grass strip. There is plenty of parking and camping. We have a local A&P/IA on the field. I think I can negociate some better fuel prices for those who fly in. We will provide entertainment as well as a shuttle to the local floating casino. We have plenty of motels, too. We are only 45mins from 2 different aviation museums.

    So what do you think?

    Mark,

I'm over here at SPI and would definitely be interested in coming. You are about 200 nautical WNW from me.
    Cheers,
    Marty

You have more Taylorcrafts on one field than I have seen in our state in seven years.
        Cheers,
        Marty

Once you get two on one field, they breed like flies! Actually, once people get a ride in one they find out how much better they are than Cubs and Champs/Chiefs.

              Re: Taylorcraft Fly-in in Iowa

Mark, I am interested. Planning to go out to Blakesburg in 2012, so the easiest time for me would be either just before or just after Labor Day. Might be passing nearby a few weeks earlier or later, too, as I am hoping to do a circle route up (or down) the east coast at the same time. The timing on that trip will depend on having the airplane done and figured out, weather, vacation, phase of the moon, etc.

So, interested, yes. Timing, pick one that works and I'll try to be there, whenever it is.

              Happy birthday, Hank.

Sounds like a great idea. With my schedule I have no way to guess on best dates for me.

If it all comes together just pick the best dates that work for you and hopefully I be able to show up

I like the timing with Blakesburg. It could be a fly-out event for those at Blakesburg if it were that same weekend. We've got five Taylorcrafts on our home field!

I just talked with Carl Carson from Cedar Rapids. Carl is in AZ now, and he and some others are having problems getting logged on to the forum it seems.

Carl said he would like to attend with his '40 Taylorcraft. Chet Peek sent Carl an email saying he would bring his DC-65 too!
