    Re: Mechanics insurance?

It was a good deal when they raised it to that, pretty close to the outside price. Unfortunately the outside price has dropped and they haven't refilled yet. If they do like normal they will change the price with the next load and it will stay low even when the outside price goes up. I don't think they are making a killing.
Either way, it is nice to be able to taxi up to a pump and get fuel that has been tested. I trust them and feel like I get what I am offered. That is worth the difference to me. It is great airport for anyone in transit, just watch for the skydivers and powered parachutes. They try to stay out of the traffic patterns but are hard to see sometimes. You won't miss the jump plane. Big single engine turboprop that is ugly as your wife's sister with Hershey bar wings, tip dihedral and a huge door on the pilots side. You DON'T want to be behind it when he opens the throttle! He likes to turn around by the wash rack. Plane rocking and nerve racking!

      Re: Mechanics insurance?

It seems we are talking of 2 different areas here.

The original post addressed the concern with insurance for the A & P.

It drifted into a discussion regarding insurance for hangar renters.

When hangars collapse or catch on fire the Insurance co ( of the renter) usually settles

the case quite promptly. ( IF YOU have Hull Insurance ).

However; the next step is for the insurance folks to SUBROGATE against the airport.

I had the task of calling renters after a $2 million (?) fire destroyed many aircraft.

      Vandals were the cause.

The insurance folks wanted to subrogate because the privately owned airport did not have guards posted 24/7.

The airport later added a "No Subrogation Clause" to the lease agreement.

The insurance people then stated they would not insure anyone based at that field.

A big concern is a fire starting in your hangar from an uninsured source. 1978 Pinto?

The resulting damage may be on your nickel.

Lawyers & insurance - If one didn't exist you wouldn't need the other.

Well Magman, that happens sometimes. Hank and I got to talking about fuel. It happens. Sometimes it gets redirected, sometimes the orginal poster got their answer early on. Thanks for your post.
        Cheers,

Regarding having to acquire liability insurance to turn wrenches; I would just have to see that in writing. I have been told all kinds of things by people who think things should be a certain way and just make it into some kind of rule or regulation in their mind and then try to enforce it. I would say, please scan and email me the page where that statute is listed and then I can properly consider my options. If they can't show proof of that as being "law" and not just someone's good idea, then blow it off.

I'm not sure if it would be a law. I assume a municipality, (lawyers), can implement rules as they see fit for their airport as long as they are not violating some other law.

Typically the airport owner will call the shots.

PERMITTING any practice to take place is considered condoning it by some.

I've seen folks get sued because they allowed maintenance to take place on their premises.

"Assisting in the maintenance" was the wording.

Good point, Magman. I was thinking of small, or large, town airports. I didn't think of those that are owned by individuals.
