Are you saying that I need a log for the carb and mags?

If I was doing a pre-buy & the seller could not produce the maintenance records for the

engine, carb, mags or ? I would advise the buyer to reduce their offer.

    The prop is no different.

As has been stated several times there is no requirement to keep a Log BOOK.

      ALL Maintenance MUST be "logged".

However; you must keep Maintenance Records in some format.

As the Owner that is responsible for the Maintenance Records ; the option is yours.

The Tech is REQUIRED to MAKE an entry after maintenance is performed. (Maintenance Release)

The Pilot in Command is REQUIRED to ASSURE there is an entry before flight.

If a problem occurs on this flight ; whether related to the task performed or not, violations may be

issued to BOTH Pilot & A & P if THERE IS NO ENTRY.

Usually there is no concern as all goes well.

With a problem however; the finger pointing begins & the FAA gets dragged in.

Pilots would do well to READ the entry.

At times the entry may be ONLY be a release for a local area test flight.

An example would be for a Flight Testing a new cylinder & requiring Compression & Oil Screen

to be checked within a certain number of hours.
