  • Budget wing rotator

I thought some of you might be interested in my poor man's wing rotator. It allows a full 360 degree rotation of the wing. The root end is easy as there are attachment points. I welded up a pipe stand out of 1/2 inch water pipe, threaded through some of the pipe couplers so I could put locking bolts to stop sliding and rotation when desired.

The other end is just a loop of rope through a pulley overhead. the height of the pulley determines if the wing will remain at the same height. If the pulley isn't high enough, the wing will move up and down significantly as it is rotated. The loop of rope is tied through the outboard aileron bracket hole so it can't slip off the end of the wing.

That rope may put a lot of strain on the leading/trailing edge and cause a dent, be real careful. Most fixtures attach so they dont touch the fabric or any area covered with fabric. Tim

The rope goes very close to one of the ribs and over the formed sheet metal wing tip piece. I've watched very carefully for any trauma and I don't believe it is causing any problems. I considered something to spread out the load at first but I don't think it is necessary.
