      Re: Oshkosh

Well Rob, now my plans have gone awry. You are not going to be there, why did you not tell me before I bought tickets? I guess I will have to just go and talk to Harrison Ford or John Travolta.

(Funny story...a couple of years ago at OSH I went to find a bathroom and my wife was standing behind a gentleman in line to get a lemonade. It is just the two of them standing there. The guy turns around, it is Harrison Ford. I get back and find out, of course he isn't around anymore. I ask her what happened. She said she said "Hi". I asked her what happened after that, she said that he said "Hi" back. No pictures, autographs, just "Hi"! Ahhhhhhhh........) Now if it had been John Travolta, I think he would have still been in the area as he would have had a hard time walking with her attached to his leg.

Oh, BTW, we will be driving up and will attend on Friday and Saturday.
      Cheers,
      Marty

        Re: Oshkosh

Well, just got back a little while ago from Osh. Only saw a couple of T-Crafts, recognized Mike Jones' light blue one. I also saw the one that Tom Baker Sr. and Jr. restored. The new owner is out of Colorado and the plane is still in very, very nice condition. This was the same T-Craft that both my mom and dad flew back during WWII. I also found a very clean and nice cream and blue one but I will have to check the n-number for the owner. I also ran into a nice L-2 out of Kansas at an airport in Juneau, WI while we were driving back to our hotel in Watertown, WI. When I get settled I will post some pictures in the gallery and provide a link.

I also ran into David Wenglarz of Wing's Metal Works, who makes lots of nice metal things for Taylorcrafts. I saw a beautiful instrument panel and glove box doors, bungee covers, (under fuselage fairings) and landing gear to fuselage fairings. This stuff is just fantastic. His info is here on the forum if you are interested in contacting him.
        Cheers,
        Marty

Yea, that's the one. I see the owner was around so you could get some good shots. I had to shoot through the windows. Thanks for sharing!
            Cheers,

              Re: Oshkosh

Sorry I didn't get to meet you Walter. We were there on the 23rd, and just and left for home this morning. We also stayed at Circle R Campground, so if you saw a guy walking a big black lab/collie around the campground early and late in the day, that was probably me.

That was a nice looking Taylorcraft that got the Bronze Lindy award. I saw it a couple of weeks ago at a local flight breakfast. It's based in Dodgeville, Wisconsin i believe.

Marty, found your card yesterday. It would have been good to see you again. Sorry i was out and about when you stopped by.

It was good to meet Frank DeBartolo for the first time, and to see George, and the Bakers again, as well as others. We all missed seeing Forest and The "Ambassador of Taylorcraftness" though. A few people stopped by the plane to ask if you have flown it in Rob.

Scott Taylor stopped by when I was getting ready to leave this morning. It was an honor to have swing the prop for me.

                  Re: Oshkosh

That blue and cream T was a beaut alright, However did anyone notice the new lower cowl, it has no compound curve rolled in to it. It is just cut out different for the intake which allows the metal to form what apears to be a long curve from the nose to the air outlet. We took many pics and will be doing our next one this summer yet, in this fashion. It may not be a perfect replica but for the difference in work we think it it is the "cats meow"! Larry

                    Re: Oshkosh

I enjoyed meeting Mike and Mrs Jones at Oshkosh. I landed and camped at Fon Du Lac because it was too late to get in to OSH due to the field being closed for to the airshow. Mike and Mrs Jones were delightful to talk to and I hope I can see them at Blakesburg for the antique show next month. The blue and cream Taylorcraft was a thing of beauty and I enjoyed seeing it. I was not able to spend much time at the Oshkosh show this year because I did not leave till Friday morning after the fog burned off and had to be back Sunday night. I thoroughly enjoyed the Oshkosh experience although it was much too short and hope I can spend more time next year and I hope to camp in the Vintage section at OSH.

                    Thanks,

                    Frank DeBartolo

                      Hi Frank,

Marta and I won't be able to make either the Blakesburg or the Brodhead events this year. Some other family travel is getting in the way this time. We'll see you again somewhere soon though I'm sure. Enjoy the shows!
