  • Need BC12-D Fuselage

Dave Allen had the unfortunate luck of hiring some sort of team of gorillas working for the trucking company that brought his BC12-D fuselage down to the new factory for refurbishment. The gorillas managed to destroy his fuselage enroute to the point that it is economically unfeasable to repair! (Don't know whether they sat on it or dumped it off the truck, but it's bad!)

So, does anybody have just a nice fuselage that he can buy? Not a rusted up fixer-upper, but a good solid fuselage to replace his bent up one. Paperwork is not important as long as she is straight.......she will be used on his ship that has been in the family for a long time.

I know someone has a nice one out there. Let's help Dave out here. He's not on the forum yet so you can just reply to me directly or to this thread. Thanks.

    Jon,
I have one but is is a pre-war.It does have some light pitting from years past but was fixed and primed years ago.It does however need 2 pieces of tubing replaced in the bottom braces.I'll send ya a private email with a price.
On another note,if he can wait until this weekend I'm going to look at a project not too far from me that is supposed to have a good fuslage with it.I'll know more on about it on friday night...I hope.

      Fuselage

There are a couple of Taylorcraft fuselages in my hangar. They belong to my hangarmate who also owns a TCraft. He bought them in an estate sale just to capture them. I don't know what his plans are for them. I can ask him to contact you if you like.

        Tim:

Thanks. I think it would be a worthy cause for your hangarmate to let go of one of the fuselages to Dave if he would see fit. Let's see if we can get the two fellows together.

Leave me a message on my cell phone on how to contact him please 603 674-5926

I haven't talked to owner of these fuselages yet, but I saw them this weekend. The owner of the airport told me that they are both pre-war fuselages. This makes sense since my buddy's airplane is a 1941 TCraft. I'll still try to get in touch with him regarding this need.

Remember, we're the ugly Americans. As far as we're concerned, the war didn't start 'till December 7th, 1941.

OK, I talked to the owner of the fuselages and forwarded Capt Jon's phone number to him.

He told me that the fuselages are both pre - 1940.5 I have no idea why he was so specific about the half year. And I suspect that this still doesn't fit Robert Lees' definition of pre-war.

                  John,

                  Americans aren't ugly...

                  ...late maybe, but not ugly.

..Thank you Tim for getting the apostrophe in the right place, your parents sent you to the right English Class School, bless them.

The pre-war fuselage is slightly different to the post-war, in that some tubing had variations (I know not which, but I do know that the pre-war is significantly lighter..I guess 30lb?) and of course the door aperture is different (I think Hank Jarrett has described these shape differences elsewhere on this forum).

So Dave Allen might need to bear this in mind if it is of significance.

[edited to add that I must apologise for any inadvertent slander against folks who might have been offended by the previous postings about the War. What I really meant to say was (with tongue firmly in cheek):

Thank goodness the Americans are making up for being late in the last two World Wars by being early for the next one.]

I would hope that he would get a BC12D fusealge , ser # 6400 or higher. Then I would look for one around the same month that his was built........ things will fit a whole lot better....
