  • Thinking about a new radio...

Well, my top-of-the line '70s nav-com has developed a problem. To add insult to injury, the nav indicator from the same era is also acting up. Couple that with the fact that, for some inexplicable reason, my LORAN no longer knows where it's going, and I'm thinking maybe it's time for a change.

I'm looking for a single unit that can handle my com and VFR navigation needs and won't cost more than my plane is worth. I have enough space for 2 KX-175's in the panel to work with.

    TIA-

Not quite what you stated but:

The King KY-97 is a proven lower cost COMM.

Couple that with an iFLY 700 for NAV?

Try Icom A-22 and a Ifly 700 or.... Sporty's Com with VOR and Ifly 700. I use the first option...had a Sporty's and trade it...and I regret it. External antena... noise capacitor and low noise plugs...mags noise is still there but level is acceptable or Im accepting it

Stay away from the large radio's, get a becker or microair. You can run them off a 7ah SLAB mounted on the floorboard just below the pilots feet. See 337 in tech references section. Total weight for the radio is less than 3 lbs with wiring and the battery was 7 lbs. Tim
