Re: Installing fuel fitting into wing tank
This should be mentioned too whenever this dicussion comes up and I forgot to say it.
NEVER use teflon tape.
Regardless of anything contrary that is offered on subsequent posts - NEVER use teflon tape.
NEVER us teflon tape.
Did I mention to never use teflon tape?
It will fray and get into the fuel systen and plug something somewhere sometime and it will not be good.

amen on the teflon tape...that's what was in there and I had to fish out stringy pieces for an hour. I got er done with seal lube. wings are back on and the floatplane is ready for the 2011 season. I just need an annual which is happening next week and the fun begins again.

Re: Installing fuel fitting into wing tank
By the way, DON'T use Teflon tape on your fuel system. ;-)
I also found retirements of the tape on some threads in the system. I took EVERY FITTING apart to get rid of all of it. Some of the old timers think it is OK if you don't get it near the end of the threads. DON'T! You CAN'T keep it out of that last thread every time and you can't check it after it's together.
I DID use Teflon tape on my compressor connections, but I recently found something much better. Future liquid floor coating works GREAT for sealing decals on models with an airbrush. If you don't clean it out CAREFULLY it will also glue your airbrush into a solid sculpture. When you clean the brush the Future will bubble out of EVERY tiny air leak. The great idea was to brush the Future on all of the threaded connections for the hoses and fittings on the compressor. It wicks into the tiny gaps and seals them up. It's GREAT for getting your compressor system to stop leaking and the compressor doesn't cycle so much. You will need wrenches to take everything apart again, but you do anyway. DO NOT USE Future on fuel fittings!! The fuel could soften it and it could gum up your carb!!! Gas would probably work pretty good to clean the airbrush, but you are suicidal if you want to start spraying gas out of an airbrush!
Bet you were wondering how I could tie this all back together and stay "on topic" didn't you.
