    Yep- you have a pre war horizontal and elevator and a post war rudder. This is not uncommon. I prefer the pre war elevator because it doesn't have a tendency to meet the horiz. stab at the tip like you see so many post war airplanes. I was told by Tom Pittman (old Taylorcraft employee that lived close by) that the reason was simply to ease the manufacturing process. He said that because it was more difficult to line up 3 hinges they saved some time switching to 2.

    As for trim tabs- there were many different shapes after the little flipper was discontinued. Some were made of wood, some aluminum.

      I checked my aircraft logs. I couldn't find any entry for tail replacement. But I saw several opportunities, like "flipped aircraft on its back" or "aircraft dissassembled after landing accident" in the 50's and 60's. At one time, N96872 belonged to a flight school or a flying club in California.
