    Re: Sun-N-Fun

Rats. Rained out from NC to FL. I know I promised some folks I'd have placards there, but the PO is still operating so I'll ship stuff that way.

      Re: Sun-N-Fun

I just watched the weather Channel. Looks Like 60 mile an hour winds, a tornado over in Orlando.Golf sized hail... Polk County (Lakeland) is in the advisory area. Wow looks like yet another busted year for Sun N Fun. I have to wonder with the cost of everthing at that Venue, not to mention the New realities of our economy if that show has not run its course . A LOT of folks around these parts are complaining ,not going and those that do come back each year with the same report...fewer people FAR fewer show planes....and yes sigh High prices. I know you guys up north look foward to this pilgramige each year. I think the local flyins are really coming back in vogue for those seeking grass roots. The more thing change the more they stay the same. Not that the EAA runs Sun N Fun but while I am on this Opine they better get ahead of what appears coming... and realize while the majority of their members are 150 spam can types those folks go for the Types like us and homebuilders....hell we are certainly more interesting !!!!!!

        Re: Sun-N-Fun

I just received a call from my friend that I was supposed to fly down to Sun N Fun with in his L-2. Must have been an omen; just like I read on another thread....the winds were 70+ mph, heavy rain and hail. All not good for our little birds, nor the ones that are down there.
        Cheers,

Sun-N-Fun really got hit bad with weather i am sure many friends have been effected... SO FAR ; my Warbird guys got out and no bad reports from the tribe. I had a report to be given at the forumn ; will NOW do it in the newsletter ; there is an Airworthiness Concern Sheet again about struts. Guys WILL NOT listen and they used Powder Coating on their brand new SEALED struts. This will may void the sealed part, if they drilled the relief hole. Now they go back to 48 months inspection. I will be keeping up on it and do the letters over the week-end. WE had SNOW again in NE Ohio.... pray for friends at SNF.

A co-worker just emailed saying there are reports of a Hangar Collapse at Sun-N-Fun? Has anyone heard this?

I hope nobody has been hurt!

Dad was at the T-craft forum when the storm hit. He didnt think it was that bad until he went outside. A local fellow from here had his T-18 wind up on its back. He's now looking to take it apart and haul it home.

Strong Storms Batter Sun 'n Fun

The scene at Sun 'n Fun at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport turned to chaos on Thursday as strong storms hammered the show site, flipping airplanes, knocking out power to the exhibit halls and collapsing a building, trapping dozens of people inside. The National Weather Service reported confirmed tornadoes in the area, and said more than 70 people were trapped inside the collapsed building at the Sun 'n Fun show site. Even though the first couple of days of the show were largely storm free, the week continued to be defined by heavy rain that soaked the grounds the day before the festivities started and kept thousands of airplanes from arriving in Lakeland. Despite the slow start to the week, some vendors reported doing good business even with the smaller crowds. Launch events by Aspen, Piper, Garmin and Cessna generated a good deal of buzz at the show, and as the week progressed and the scattered areas of decent weather surfaced, the mood of show goers seemed decidedly upbeat. But on Thursday morning show goers awoke to heavy rains and threatening skies before a massive storm cell swept through the area late in the morning. A tornado warning for the area remained in effect on Thursday afternoon.

No hangar or buildings down, just a tent where seventy people were temporarily trapped and seven people were injured. A hangar door was damaged along with any temporary shelters, (tents, etc.), that were gone after the storm.

I just saw this today - This L2 is registered to Mark Watson, formerly was owned by forum member Ed Obrien. Looks like it took a big hit although could have been worse.

This airplane has a CAP STC engine conversion to C85-12 with Starter and Electrical system. I hope Mark can get her back on her feet.
