  • Need Your Opinion Regarding Purchase of Slick Mags

    Hi everyone,

With some tax refund money in-hand, I think I am going to get rid of my Bendix mags and buy some Slick Mags/Harnesses. This should help on the ignition noise and starting/reliability.

My last two T-Crafts had Slick mags and I was very happy with them so I figured I would do the same for this one.

Does anyone have any thoughts on where the best purchase price would be or any other thoughts?

I plan on using shielded plugs on the bottom and the Ercoupe cups I got from Fresno on the top. I will wait and see if the threads are compatible, or not, once I get the harnesses and go from there.

    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Marty

Kind of difficult to comment w/o knowing WHICH Bendix mags you have.

My thoughts are that the Slicks will give you 500 hrs of relatively troublefree

    service.

So will a GOOD o/h'd Bendix.

After the 500 hrs Slick's advantage trails off due to their pricing structure.

There are quite a few PMA folks that support Bendix.

    Slick has recently changed though.

You CAN buy a Impulse Coupling Spring for about $20.

Previously you were required to purchase the Entire Coupling for about $250.

If the couplings don't fit on the cup you can borrow a dye from me that will get it to work on the cup.

            Marty,
I just put new Slicks with the Ercoupe cups on my newly restored BC12D. On this Tuesday a DAR is conducting a comformity inspection so I can get an airworthy certificate. I guess I will find out soon how the FAA likes Ercoupe cups!

              Ray,

How many cups, what plugs top and bottom? How did you get around the threads on the cups or did they fit? Thanks!
              Cheers,
              Marty

                Marty,
I'm using the cups on the top front cylinders with C-26 plugs. The Rear top plugs are Rem37BY and all the bottom plugs are Rem40E which came with the Slicks. I had to retread the cups by filing down the treads and then recut with a 5/8 die. It was really easy to do.

When I ordered my new slicks I told them what fittings I needed and that's how I got them. I reallyl like my slicks.

In case nobody has noticed the $1900 is LESS than the price of 1 NEW Bendix.

However; there are places listed in T.A.P. that sell o/h'd for about $600 ex.

                          Last time I looked anyway.

Well that last set of bendix I sent out were 1098.00 per mag to overhaul and test. The owner decided to get slicks because they were 200.00 cheaper and comes with wires and plugs. Tim
