  • 4 in 1 tuned exhaust

Has anyone tried a 4 in 1 exhaust on a t cart? Has anyone gotten one approved?
I was trying the owner supplied part but it didn't sound like the FAA would buy it.
It sure would go well with the engine I am building, it would have a great sound too.

Cub Crafters uses a 4 into none tuned exhaust on their LSA Sport Cub that uses an O200. Copy that system or buy one from them and use that installation as the basis for a field approval. I used the same process to field approve the Aeronca dual exhaust on T-Rex. People put Cessna 150 type dual exhaust, Luscombe and Aeronca exhaust on these birds all of the time. Hopefully they are not that tight up there.

I was also looking into making a set of 4 in 1 exhaust. as for tuning go with the longest straight shot primary tubes this will give you the best performance on the torque side since the rpms are relatively low for gas motors. I took my exhaust off this year and it was a pain not to mention the gaskets and header flanges line up about as nice as a mcdonalds burger during rush hour. My plan was to use previously known materials and sizes for a field approval.I wouls even look to doing a spring loaded collector so that the tubes could be easily removed and given room to flex without cracking any joints. then tucking this into the fairing nice and tight instead of having pipes in the windstream

How are you planning to do the Carb Heat and Cabin Heat Shrouds? These are the biggest questions I would have to do such an approval. If you'll provide me with installation photos and do a Carb Heat rise test, I can provide DER approval. Then your 337 will have the approved data you need. Give me a call if you wish to discuss.

Why spend the money on a 100 HP engine? If you want more power buy a 180. I have seen several at Merrill and at Port Alsworth with the lycoming. Tim
