  • Continental A65-8 Questions - Dilema

    Hello all,

I have a dilema. I have an A65-8 tapered shaft installed on a Tcraft right now. It's in excellent running condition, but is being swapped for a 0 SMOH 65 as part of the sale agreement.

The problem is that I have no logs for that engine, there is no data plate on it, but I have a data plate for a -8F here at the house.

Is this engine sellable or not? Would someone be able to add the data plate and overhaul it?

I'd be selling it for the cost of the labor on the new engine, probably in the $1500 range.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Erik

If the FAA rep was standing there the answer would be a resounding NO, check 14 CFR Part 45, it says the data plate can only be removed during work of some type, and shall be reinstalled only where it came from - roughly interprated, check for your self, but in the real world, the FAA rep ain't always right there, gary

Should have been more specific, the changing of the data plate was what I was posting about, the engine being sellable is a yes, for the right price, the taper crank data plate will show A-65-8, the flanged crank A-65 dat plate will show A-65-8F if ID properly, gary

Sellable as parts only, not an airworthy engine

The flanged and tapered cranks are interchangeable. An engine's data plate may be modified to reflect the crank installed.

At that price I would think it would be an easy sell to either experimental or Ultralight guys.

For that price I'm sure you would sell it fast on the Pietenpol forum on Matronix. Alot of guys use the A-65 on their Piets.
