  • landing gear jigs? Wing or wings?

    Hi folks,
Reportedly there are landing gear jigs in someones possession in Alaska. My gear broke in three places and collapsed allowing wind to get underneath the left wing. Long story short...I need a complete left wing or a set of wings and a right landing gear, one and one half inch straight axle.

I am going to forge ahead to repair but in the mean time I am going to list the plane as a project soon.

Hi Tim, talked to Steve at Atlee yesterday as you suggested and he said that he was not set up to build...no jig. Did you hear different between then and now? I will call Airframes tomorrow.

            Thanks, Jim

Re: landing gear jigs? Wing or wings?

I know a few people had gear repaired there over the years, not built from scratch....I have a good gear somewhere but its a tapered axle. Maybe airframes can help, its been 2 years since I talked with them. You might get ahold of Danny clum, he had an f-22 project, maybe he would let you borrow a gear to make a jig. You can also try D&E, they have some parts...runnin out of Ideas..Tim

                  Jim:

I had a set build for my F-19 in 1997 in Anchorage. They are heavy duty. If I ding them up the fusalage will go also. They were made for me by ABC Mechancial at Lake Hood. But I believe the company is no longer in business. Dane Wagner built them and had them approved by 337. If memory serves me right I believe Dane had something to do with Leading Edge Exhaust. I can send you a copy of the 337 and if you want to look at them I am parked at Hood strip.

I have built/ rebuilt a few sets. It is really pretty easy to do if you are handy with a welding setup and some basc metalworking tools. I think I still have my jigs I built for the 6" extended experimental gear with clevelands. Hardest part is making sure they have the correct placement at the axles.

Flying is easy- to go up you pull back, to go down you pull back a little farther.
