Wag Aero lists a "flange vented" gas cap.

Aircraft Spruce Welcomes Wag-Aero Customers Aircraft Spruce is pleased to announce the acquisition of the parts distribution operations of Wag-Aero.

What does that mean? Can it be sealed by changing the gasket or...?

First guy that says "It means it is vented via the flange" is going to be in trouble. Chuckle

    Darryl,

The hole for the vent us UNDER the flange so that you don't see it when the cap is installed.

      Re: Gas cap

Thanks, guess I would have to see it, don't think it is what I am looking for.

I see the thread on gas caps in the parts section and it looks like the info I need.

I'm actually looking for a cap that will replace the dip stick on my oil tank. Thought of this at home as a way of installing sealed metal tube with a thermocouple in it down into the oil tank. Have to check tomorrow if the caps are the same general type.

I want to take some oil temperatures in an around the engine and tank using some custom thermocouples that I am making and my digital thermometer.

        Darryl,

Would it be possible to put a fitting between the case and where the flexible oil line comes out on the right rear side, on a Continental. Also there are some other oil ports that are plugged off near the front of the engine. I guess it depends on what you are measuring for. If you are just trying to see how hot your oil is getting in the engine, I would think that taking the temp at the tank would not give a very accurate reading.

if what you are doing is temporary why not put the probe in the drain hole on the oil tank with some fittings when done take it off Chuck

            Re: Gas cap

I think I had what you are talking about one time. The cap was made of 2 stamped pieces and around the bottom edge there were 4 small openings for the vents. For my application I had to trim the cap and I sealed the vent holes. Tom
