  • Member Location Map

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I thought it would get the most exposure. I was recently browsing the ShotGunWorld forums and came across a map of their members locations. I would like to see something similar for Taylorcraft forum members. The map is created & stored on the Zeemap website, can be sourced to a T-Craft web page, and, while being setup & maintained by an individual, all input would be voluntary and input by forum members.

The following link shows the Shotgunworld map sourced to their webpage:

A forum community dedicated to Shotgun owners and enthusiasts including the Remington, Beretta, and Mossberg shotguns brands. Come join the discussion about optics, hunting, gunsmithing, styles, reviews, accessories, classifieds, and more!

This second link is their member map as seen on the Zeemap website:

Map Frozen:Needs to be owned by an active, paid plan for more visits.

This link is to a map I have been working on for the airports where I have landed:

Edit map My_airports created with ZeeMaps

By clicking on a member marker, you can bring up an info bubble that displays data about the member. Again, this would be voluntary and all info would be input by the members. If one clicks on the marker in the SW corner of Arkansas, M18, you will see a picture associated with that location. Likewise, the marker in the center of Kentucky shows a link to a YouTube video. If there is interest, I would agree to setup and maintain the map. We would need to get the powers that control the website to link to it. And we would need to decide what information to input by the members and how to group membership. I would suggest aircraft model.

    Is anyone interested?

    Re: Member Location Map

I think we did it once before, but it kind of flopped. I was on it and about 8 or 10 others on the east coast, but it went very quiet and kind of died.
I STILL think it is a good idea and maybe it's a good time to try again. Anyone remember what system we tried last time? Maybe we could check to see if the data is still in place to use as a starting foundation.

Yea we have one for my ultralight group. It works when one of us is on the road to see if someone is close enough to visit, have a beer with or planing fly-ins too. L

                Re: Member Location Map

Another forum I frequent has something linked through the UserCP. You put a pin on a map, you can be as detailed or vague as you wish (or skip it), and the site has a menu tab called "Member Map." It must be supported by Google as the link says "index.php?action=googlemap" I'd post the link, but it only works for members...

                Anyhow, it's really slick.
