  • What is this switch

In the middle of my panel is a silver push button it has wires going to it but i have no idea what it does. I have a cable type starter. The button in question is inbetween my oil pressure and oil temp gauge.

    Re: What is this switch

Have you turned the master on and tried pushing it yet???? It could be the crue for a nagging co-pilot,lol.....an ejection seat!!!!! Seriously, looks to me like a starter button but you have the pull starter, maybe someone in the past did an engine swap from one with a push button to one with a pull starter. Or maybe when the conversion was first done they added the push button before realizing they had a pull type(yeah stupid, but possible). And as strange as this may sound, it could've been a horn button. I've of a couple of folks who added an electric style air horn(sounded like a train horn commenly used on boats) because they was always afraid of taxing into someone on crownded ramps at fly inns because they couldn't see over the nose very well. It could be used for a number of things,it could've even been someone's conversation starter(i.e. what's that button do??lol) or a joking panic button. Best thing to do is trace the wires coming out of the back of it and see where they lead you.

      Re: What is this switch

I've just seen the horn deal this year at a fly in. I kinda liked it but not sure the motivation is there to do it. I plane on pulling the panel this winter to redo. last i looked at it from below it had quite a few wires. i push it at times looking for the eject seat nothing seems to happen or ask passenger if they know what it is. about midflight they get concerned that i dont know everything.

If it's a bomb release, there should be an arming switch under the pilot's seat.

Also, there is a strange instrument immediately above the silver button. It almost looks like one of theose new-fangled "turn & slip" things that you find in modern aircraft, but I must be mistaken.
