Brake part needed

For my 1977 F-19 with Cleveland 30-3A brakes

I need 1 Torque plate part number 065-00800. This would be for the left hand side.

There is a stud in the plate with a journal through it in which the cam assembly pivots to expand the brakes. This stud has cracked.

I have pictures if needed.

Any leads out there?

Here is a picture of the torque plate. You can see the crack where the cam sticks through the plate.

some of the champs used those brakes. you might try posting something on an aeronca forum also.

Mr. Ollerton clued me into that a while back when I was having some trouble seeing the updated photos on the forum. It purges the browser's "cache" so you get the updated picture and see the real thing.

I just started calling around

The factory says that within the six month time frame they will have a conversion kit for the F-19 for hydraulic brakes. Around the $2000 dollar range.

Univair says I can buy a torque plate from them for $675 with a four to six week lead time and they would order from Cleveland (Parker Aerospace). I'll have to give Parker a call to see if they are really available.

Brake parts

I have spent the last 12 years trying to find those parts myself. Cleveland will sell you a new one for $400.00. A piper pacer has the same plate with a hydraulic cylinder in the middle of the pucks. I would like to find a set of those to conver to Hydraulic brakes.

I have a new torque plate on the way from Parker Aerospace for the princely sum of $700 including an expediting fee. It's steep but I dont' want the spend the summer looking for the part.

I know it is too late now, but why couldn't you just take the torque plate to a welder and have the crack repaired?

It's cast aluminum and the IA didn't recommend welding it, we did discuss that option.

Don't throw that cracked plate away; I suspect that it is readily weld-repairable, with likely excellent results. Most aluminum castings are easily weldable.

Maybe you should just run it with the crack. Mine are so bad that you would cringe to look at them.

The crack was such that it resulted in the brake always being partially applied which resulting in overheating. Also, the cam would wobble and pulse when the brake was applied.

Oh, and if the stud broke off I would have no brake or maybe even worse have the wheel lock up.
