    Re: Shinn Brake Parts Needed

I'm working on getting my brakes to work better, need cinch up the cable at the pedals. I also made a discovery this morning. While at the Tractor Supply Aviation store I saw some washer shims, 3/4" X 14 and 3/4" X 18, the cost was $.49 ea., just the thickness needed.

Can anyone tell me if there is a left and right side to the shinn brake assys., and how do you tell.I know how mine came off,and they always worked very well,to the point of wondering why alot of people were not happy with the ones on their airplane.I have floan Peter Collins airplane and his were not as effective as mine.I wonder if the shoes are reversed on his.
Im getting the gear ready to swap from floats so any help is great.
      Thanks

        Re: Shinn Brake Parts Needed

There is one rather important item that is handed: the back-plate that screws to the axle assembly.

It is marked (stamped) L and R respectively.

It's the item with one screw installed (on page 1 and page 9) in my thesis on Shinn Brakes here.

All the other parts are interchangeable left-to-right.

        Hope that helps,

        Rob

Just as an afterthought, I can't remember if the horseshoe-shaped actuator (page 4) is handed...it may well be, but I don't recall it being marked as such.

              Perfect,Just what I needed.Thank you!
I found that the 'Z' clip faced towards the rear of the respective side so that if the cotter pin ever fell out,it would have a better chance of staying attached.
              Thanks again

                Re: Shinn Brake Parts Needed

Sorry I am so late to the party. Shinn Brake parts are available at Columbis Airmotive in Troutdale, OR. http://columbiaairmotive.com/index.htm

The inventory changes over time, but the last time I talked to them they had everthing except some types of wheels.
