Get the cable, beg, borrow, or steal a cable swage and just make your own. If it is the first time plan on making a couple of sets but still way cheaper. We made a full set of new for the 46 last summer.

      Jim:

Most folks make up their own cables. It's easy, you save money, and you can be sure it's done right.

Aircraft Spruce sells a tool kit for $50. Be sure to get the Go-NoGo gauge to test your swedges, then follow the directions in AC43.13. Use the old cable as a pattern.

        Hi
Just replaced rudder and elevator cables. Rudder were easy. Please note, they are not symmetrical length. They are different length. Right side has the other 3 cables rudder cables go thru all the guide rings, note the orientation on the phenolic block, in order to put them in their correct slot. I have the old ones. Pulleys have to be removed. Don't know if I have enough left over cable to make you a set. If I do, I'll post you on this thread. Remember, rotate them until you locate the way they pushed them through the guide rings. I took them off intact in order to jig them to a long board and clamps. I needed the new cables a little tighter, to allow for stretching. Note that the loads from your controls aren't really enough to stretch them. bushings one end turnbuckle on the other.
        good luck.

Thanks guys for the input. I called Aircraft Spruce today, man said he new nothing of a tool kit for makeing cables? Maybe get a different man tomorrow? McFarlane said they would make them custom, to send the old ones. I worked where we had loads of steel cable, not on that job now, no accsess to that stuff anymore. Got to search for the cable and ends. Is there a certain cable recomended? Aircraft quality? Brand name. Also hardware for ends? Tool for secureing the ends? Fair skys and tailwinds. Jim

            Hi
I found enough cable for you to make a set of rudder cables. Tomorrow I'll check spruce west for the ends. they had everything, they ran out of the bushing inside the cable ends. I'll also give you the catalog part no. for the tool. May have ends also. If I have it, I'll send it to your address after posting you. No cost. After getting it. reimburse my shipping cost. Probably 5 dollars priority mail. cables are my left overs so you can have them free.

Use a proper cable tool NOT that thing that you screw down with a wrench, unless you hit it hard with a hammer....Any shop should have a 1/8th NicoPress tool , looks like a large bolt cutter usually AT&T ..

Can anyone else comment on that tool Forrest is describing? I don't see myself doing a lot of cables so that tool seemed appropriate.

Also, if I use my current cables as models, will I have to be concerned that they may have stretched? - Mike

I wouldn't use the one with the bolts. I don't want to risk an end coming loose. Buy the real deal and sell it on Ebay when you are done if you can't barrow one to use. Tom

I see several on e-bay, but aren't they supposed to say what size they are supposed to crimp? - Mike

I think the one I use will do 1/16" to 3/16" cable. It has 4 notches for the different sizes. Tom

That's what I thought, but the one(s) I saw on e-bay seemed to be a single size, but I didn't look at more than three, avoiding the expensive ones, so I probably missed them =Mike

OR........as I said in my first post; borrow! Find an EAA chapter, there will be at least one avialable for your job and probably one or two people to help you who have done it before.
