  • Another Taylorcraft back in the air

    Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that BC12-65 BPHP has finally flown again after 11 years on the ground in bits. Myself and Stewart Jackson have put a lot of time and effort into its rebuild over the last 2 1/2 years after a landing accident in 1999. The photo below was taken after it's third shakedown flight yesterday in the very capable hands of Paul Jones at Derby.

This wasn't a 'no expense spared' restoration as we don't have the money, but the aircraft has had a thorough rebuild and is fit for many more years service. It has to be said that many people have contributed to the rebuild and it passed through several hands along the way, thanks are due to all involved in getting it flying again.

I understand that it is the oldest Taylorcraft in the UK - serial 2799.

    regards,

    Colin

      Hi Colin, and well done.

I met up with both Paul & Stewart at Wharf Farm on Saturday, and they told me the good news.

I look forward to seeing it at the fly-ins around the country!

        Thanks Rob,

while you were meeting Paul and Stewart at Wharf farm I was adjusting the rigging and Paul advises that it is now flying straight.

Paul confirmed that with the ailerons rigged with a small droop on the ground they assumed a level state in flight.

Yesterday's two flights went very well with currently nothing for me to do. We have a test schedule to perform but all is looking good.

        regards,

        Colin

That may involve me learning to fly it! We have the test schedule to complete which hopefully will be done before Oshkosh after which I have a holiday in France, then I'll get down to it seriously.

One way or another it will get to Sywell I'm sure.

          regards,

          Colin

            BEAUTIFUL!
And thank you ever so much for getting the fin flash painted properly with 7 red and 6 white stripes.
I hope you get many fine flying years for all your toil.
            Best Regards,
            Mark Julicher

I just added a few more pictures. One of the instrument panel shows performance currently. Am advised that the prop may need a bit less pitch but, because it was made by a friend; Ken Fern, that is not a great issue.

              regards,

              Colin
