  • A65 Rear Case

Oil was seeping out of my rear case where the mags mount. So my IA installed two gaskets under each mag, but it still leaked. Upon closer inspection of the surface of the rear case where the gaskets seal, small pits in the metal could be seen. The solution was a thin film of red RTV. But obviously this is only a temporary fix.

Has anyone else had this problem? I think the case is magnesium, but not sure. Can the part of the case where the magneto gaskets seal be machined down a few thousands? Has anyone used JB Weld to fill the pits in this surface? I believe that by filling these pits, the gasket would seal just fine.

small pit is mag castings in common from deterioration. No need to machine face or approval to do so. Apply sealant to engine side of gasket only and go fly.
