Several Posts on this. Should be a lubrication hole for the jack screw back on the elevator. Rob Lee posted some very good pictures of the jack screw.

If I was good with a putor I could put these two pics together to make the complete trim mechanism...but I'm not

      Hope this helps.

So when the trim get stuck in the air: Puch HARD UNTILL YOU HAVE SAFE ALTITUDE AND BACK OFF ON THE POWER AND TRY AGAIN!
        worked for me.
        2. LAND back at the airport ASSAP.
this to avoid more trouble what you can handle!
        3. Bring out your can of light oil and oil the trim screw in the Tail.
somewhere on this terrific website is picture of the oilhole, it is on the left side inside the tailfin . Oil it 3 -4 times a year. 3-5 drops
        4. Use rasin ( from a rasin for bowling or violin stings) , to increase the friction by rubbing it on the trimwire .
Where is tension spring on the wire inside the fuselage. It may need replaceing, dubble it up and you dont need to separet the wires and retread it and crawl into the fuselage etc. Use a good qualety spring, from your local (aircraft) hardware store.
        Worked for me.(;f

Re: newbie needs help trim stuck

Mine last week did its yearly thing. The trim tab cable tension spring assembly on the trim cable inside the fuselage was up towards the cockpit and was hitting the cable guide/fair lead tube. This caused the trim tab to be stuck. This happens because the cable slips on the pulley and creeps up to the front when being used. I even use the violin rosin stuff which helps somewhat. This could be your problem also.

            Eric,

Your trim cable has slipped over the aft trim pulley at the base of the fin. This is quite common, and you must be careful to only excercise the trim when the control column is in the neutral position.

However, to correct the "trim runaway", you need a few helpers.

            1. Remove the inspection panels at the base of the fin, to get access to the aft trim pulley.

            2. Inside the cockpit, move aside any headliner/panels to get access to the trim cable above and behind the seat.

            3. Ask an assistant to sit in the cockpit, facing aft, and get him to pull the ends of the trim spring together (pulling the two ends of the cable that attach to the spring...this relieves the tension on the trim cable) while you rotate the aft trim pulley (allowing the cable to slip over the small aft pulley) to move the trim tab back to the correct place.

3.a. To do the above adjustment, the trim needs to be set so that your assistant can reach the trim spring...usually meaning winding the trim forward. So there is a bit of an iterative process in winding the trim forward to reach, and then winding it back to check it's OK.. But always wind the trim with the control column in neutral.

            4. If your trim indicator works, but indicates incorrectly, then you need to move the front pulley (using the window-winder) while your assistant keeps the tension off the spring) to allow the cable to slip around the bigger front pulley.

It's very difficult to describe, but I hope this helps.

            Rob

Re: newbie needs help trim stuck

Thank you guys for the great responses. I was able to search the site and after several post i was able to find picks of the mechanism. I also found the advice. i had compounded my problem by slipping the cable. my fix was to take off my access panels on the tail, I then took the cables off of the pulleys, i then inserted new cotter pin/ heavy Coat hanger. I twisted the mechanism using a wrench and got it to work the trim tab back to level, i REMOVED hanger piece and replaced with cotter pin. then reinstalled the cable in the correct position. trouble free so far

              thank you much
