Studebaker- Taylorcraft -Parts

I will be going to the Studebaker dealership near me sometime this week, i hope. If any of you on the forum have Taylorcraft parts that you need that you think Studebaker made, you can send me a picture and i will check on availability at this time or see if they actualy are Studebaker parts. Thay still have a few cars and a stockroom full of parts. [email protected]

See if there are any of the trim strips from the page header for this site. I would BET those trim strips were from a Studebaker! The plant was SOOOOO close and my 41 is full of handles, knobs and trim pieces that have been traced back to Studebaker.
If they have any info on the upholstery materials used close to the war that would be good too. The interior on my 41 is based on fabric and materials available in 41 from Studebaker. I would love to actually see a piece of 41 headliner, Taupe Mohair and Maroon Leatherette.
I know for sure I saw a Taylorcraft trim handle in a restored Studebaker being used as a window winder!

Hank i need pictures of window cranks etc. Most of the airplanes seem to have used ford window cranks, interior, etc. The Stinson Detroiter interior, handles, cranks etc. looked like a Model A Ford . I know some of the trim cranks on Taylorcraft were found to be Ford, but i waws not there when they built it , so i don't know if they were original or not. Marv

If ya go there, keep an eye out for any "NOS" parts they have for one of my Studebakers.....

This is the one I have seen on several planes and came up at a car show in a Studebaker. Of course Studebaker and Ford could well have used the same handles. Doesn't make much sense to cast up custom handles when one is available off the shelf, even if it is on a competitors car.

This was something interesting my upholsterer had I would love to have a copy of. DO NOT TRY TO USE THIS PICTURE TO MATCH COLORS! Your computer and my camera won't copy the color right.
The last picture is of the nose trim pieces on the 41. Really hard to find. I keep expecting to see a car somewhere with them on a rusty fender.

Marv does any of parts come with yellow tags? If not how hard would it be to legally put in my T-Craft.

Dennis your airplane is at least 64 years old, so just put your new studebaker on and keep it to yourself , Who will know and who will care. Marv

Marv, for goodness sakes find out everything they have which could possibly have been used on the T-craft. Interior and exterior trim, fabrics, window cranks, handles, etc. etc. etc. It is a fair guess that the restorers here would rather know about 500 Stud car parts that don't go on a T-craft, than missing out knowing about one that did. Dashboard knobs? Glove compartment knobs? Chrome instrument bezels? The infamous cowling trim? Mohair fabrics?

Bill i will ask about knobs etc, but i doubt if they will know anything about Taylorcraft parts . If i have a picture to show they may recognize the parts as Studebaker possibly. LeBaron Bonney Company would be a good source for mohair and napped cotton as used in old Fords etc. You can check on there samples etc by calling 1-800-221-5408. They are top dog when it comes to antique car interiors and real nice people to deal with. They specialize in authentic original interiors and fabrics. Marv

Gentleman i went to the Studebaker dealer this week. The only part that was thought to possibly be Studebaker was the trim crank handle and escutcheon. He is going to check and see if he can find the 2 window cranks he has someplace to see if they are like the Taylorcraft for sure. The glove box handle is not Studebaker or cowling trim as far as he knows. He never knew of Studebaker making parts for Taylorcraft but said it was possible that Taylor could have bought surplus parts leftover at some time. He has no paint chip books for sale but has books from the day to match paint to. There is going to be a Studebaker meet the Apri 17 and we will check with owners of the older Studebakers. If any of you wish to contac John on your own to buy parts or get private info i will post his address and phone no. When i get his email address i will include it. He is supposed to email me info when he gets it and i will have the email address. I forgot to get it when i was there . Marv

I think some trim and handle parts from Pymouth were in the OEM market and used on boats, travel trailers, Luscombe... during the 40s and 50s.
