  • Newby Introduction...2nd time

Good morning girls & boys. My name is Randy from Ont Kanada.
Joined up a year ago at about this time looking for some insight & info on T-crates when I was in the process of buying one! Unfortunately after driving 13 hrs somebodys idea of "real nice" shape wasn't anywhere close to mine, so left it sit & purchased a nice Chief I stumbled onto. I have now bought a very nice project T-craft that had a lot of money put into & it's right at the point where assembly starts. So I'll be bothering a couple of you guys for help & suggestions along the way, once I get started. A friend & I need to finish a Pa-22-20 restoration before we can tackle this girl.
Is there such a thing as a Deluxe BC12D Taylorcraft?
This one comes with all the lights, an original battery box & of course a lovely little wind generator that weighs about 10lbs. It also has what my bud tells me is a very expensive German made clock?
I can hardly contain myself in the wait to get started on it!!

    Randy,
There were "Deluxe" versions and they had different equipment depending on the year.
What model (BC-12-65, BC-12D BL??, BF??), year, "N" number and SN do you have? If it is a pre-war there are several of us who have been trying to get ours back to as close to original as we can and have lots of pictures and drawings.
Welcome back to the Tribe and we promise to not give you a hard time for going to the dark side with that Chief.

      Hi Hank.
      She's a 46 BC-12D model serial #8406 with 1150TTSN
      Call sign is CF-QQS
If she flys as good as the old Chief I'll be happy
How come you guys don't have a Swap section?<---never mind just opened my eyes !

Wow! The parts I see look really clean! There are lots of 46 parts out there and plenty of people who can get you pictures of the tough bits and how they go together. Don't beat yourself up trying to put her together by trial and error, just ask.

Post a TON of pictures of everything as you put it together. Pictures of EVERYTHING! You will get great QA from the Tribe and be able to catch any obscure "gotchas" while they are easy to correct. In addition you may become the source material for those who follow.

As for flying as good as the Chief, just you wait. As soon as you start flying the Taylorcraft you will think the Chief is a sheet rock delivery truck. They are great planes, but NO WAY as nice as the Taylorcraft.

The only really good flying Chief round here is Forrest. All the rest of us is just Indians in the Tribe!

          Will do on the pics.
Heck by the time I'm done I may even improve my camera skills enough so you can understand what the pic is of!
While not officially starting the job yet, I just spent last evening installing control cables. & of course run into the 1st "glitch"
Who ever made the control cables didn't allow enough loop in the rudder cable end for the crimps to clear the peddle arm fork

Post pictures of the whole run. You may be missing a link near the rudder pedal arm.

Just curious: Is the clock a Sinn?

I flew a buddy's Chief (until he ground-looped it) for a few hours and it was just okay once you got it up and cruising, but the takeoff performance on a hot day was pretty marginal, especially compared to the Taylorcraft. I will say the fit and finish of the Chief was nicer than my ship, but then mine has had a hard life.

The T will fly rings around the Chief. Flew formation with one all over the mid-west to fly ins (even Alliance years ago) before the storm blew the hangar down on us. I am flying again, he is close.

Just wanted to thank you guys for the support.
It's pretty daunting when you have a thousand piece puzzle to assemble with no pic of the finished project

Do you happen to know if the project that you passed up is still around and or maybe some contact info on it?

Take my word for it, it's not worth it at 1/2 the price!
