It would only be MOSTLY ILLEGAL since the original case would still be legal

The photo shows the mounting system and propulsion mechanism used with Doc's Ward generator. We don't want to be accused of hijacking this thread with inferior Brand X flying products.

P.S. For those who are wondering how a Guppy got into this thread, there are THREE Taylorcrafts just to the right of the above picture! Doc

        Hank,
Did you get the copies of the Ward Aero info?
The generator is a standard "A" circuit generator that is the field is grounded externaly in the regulator. The regulator is a standard Delco Remay 3 element regulator. IE a reverse current relay, voltage and currrent regulator coils and contacts. You should be able to check it on any tester gen/alt tester.

          Re: Ward Aero wind generator

I got the data and am working on a wiring diagram and setup that will allow us to put in a whole electrical system that can be put in and pulled out at will (not permanent, so it doesn't need to be approved).
If it works it will drop right into the original battery box providing a portable volt meter, amp meter, master, field and circuit switches with fuses. I'll pass on the design as soon as I put it on my 41 and get my IA to OK it (for safety and function, shouldn't need "official" approval).
Thanks for the information, I couldn't have done any of this without it.

Hank: I spoke with Lew today...very nice guy. My generator was mailed to him on Friday by the acccessory shop in San Antonio. They finally admitted they were stumped. Thanks for the info on this thread! BTW, once the unit is back, I will try to have the prop scanned if the milling price is right. Another thread suggested we increase the diameter by 1-1.5 inches so that we can "tune" the rpm. Doc

Lew is solid gold. Old fashion professional who really knows his stuff. The nice thing is he is known to all the FAA types around here and all recommend him. If it can be fixed, he can do it. If not, forget it, no one can.
On the prop, we need to talk to whoever is going to approve the new ones before we put money on the table to make new ones. We "should" be able to make them, but I would want the process locked down and accepted so we don't end up with them in hand and be told we aren't allowed to use them.

The propeller issue could be really sticky, but one way to approach it would be to get a certified repair station to make it part of their repair. repair station shave a lot more latitude than an A&P.
