  • 1940 Taylorcraft Test Pilot ID?

    Hi Tribe,

I was looking at my logs for #1705 last night and the airplane was signed off on 3/21/40 with a :45 test flight by "WAC." Anybody have an idea who might that have been?

    Thanks,

Looking back at all my paperwork I can tell you with no question his name was William A Crawford pilot certificate number 34671. If interested I also have his photo, hope that helps. I have a page from his log book that shows several N numbers if you tell me what your N number is i can look and see if your on that page and e-mail you a copy.

Re: 1940 Taylorcraft Test Pilot ID?

This is an interesting topic. My '40 BC-65, Ser# 2466, NC29624, a/c logbook shows an inspection report 12/8/40 by WCW. The log shows no flight time, just the inspection. The manufacture date is 12/10/40. Can those of you that have original records provide first flight date, time and the person who is "WCW"?

        Thanks,

        Carl

2466 came out to the field for tests on 12-8 , weight of 704# , BC w/ A65-8 #21898. She was tested that day for 30 mins. by William A. Crawford ; Lic # 34671
he may have scrawled his WAC , but it should be on the first flight page after the inspection report.

While the subject is active, I've been interested in finding similar info about NC22606 for some time. Anything you can help with Forrest?

              Thanks!

VERY inter-esting! How about N95916? I did see on the internet that it was involved in a fatal collision in the pattern while landing near buffalo in 1977. Pilot of other aircraft was killed. JC

Just e-mail me direct with n number & ser# . I can send back what we have from the factory records and test pilot log books. They are the only answer once in a while for the true Date of manufacture.

I received these from Forrest Barber at Alliance for info on my Taylorcraft and there may be info some of you can use. The first page is WAC William A. Crawford, page 2 is his ratings, page 3 is from his log book, my plane is N26658 which was flown on 7/22/1940, page 4 is the factory log when listed aircraft came off assembly line for first flight. Forrest has all this info at the foundation. Hope this does somebody some good. Here is the link to it. http://www.4shared.com/file/218714659/aa777863/CRAWFORDS_LOG_BOOK.html[/URL] when you get to the link hit download and save to your computer.
