  • Get together

Would anyone be interested in a Taylorcraft get together this spring or early summer? I was thinking about Poplar Grove, or some where in that area. There are several other nice none controled fields in that area, but not as interesting. I know there are a few t-craft owners in that area, hopefully some of them could help organize. I wouldn't want it to be a large event just maybe burgers or brots. Email me if anyone is interested in helping. George [email protected]

Where is Poplar Grove, back in the midwest somewhere? I go down to Columbia, CA every spring for a Taylorcraft fly-in.

We might be interested but it is a bit far for us to travel from just near the Cedar Rapids area might consider, it if it were a bit closer

A Taylorcraft fly in would be lots of fun. I live at Poplar Grove, C77 and would be happy to help organize the event.

Just an idea. The Taylorcraft Get Together could be done during the OSH week, since most of us arriving from the south and east would fly west of Chicago and then north passing a few miles east of poplar Grove. The OSH starting week would work, allowing some rest time.....etc....

I think you should have it in Vancouver, Washington!

From Popular Grove it would certainly qualify as a $100 cheese burger!

PS: there are two over here by Freeport that might help, Tim and I.

This would be another advantage of a strong Type Club with chapters for different parts of the country. It would sure be nice if someone could take the bull by the horns and get some sort of organization going. My trip from SW Washington down to Columbia, CA for the annual Taylorcraft fly-in down there is the highlight of my year as far as flying goes. If there were regional Taylorcraft fly-ins scheduled throughout the country, I might try to make some of those. With such a devoted owner group it is really a shame that we can't get more organized.

                  Re: Get together

I'm glad there is interest. My reasoning for spring or early summer is because the eaa chapter that I belong to does volunteer work at Oshkosh. I also go up seven to ten days ahead to to help volunteer. The reason I suggested Poplar Grove is because the airport is tailwheel friendly having two sod runways plus a hard surface runway. There is also a small museum there, plus lots of old aircraft on the field. There is a maintinence facility there, plus some one is there to pump fuel. Who knows this could turn into an annual gathering. George

I must also mention that Freeport "FEP" might be worth consideration. Grass and hard surface, Darrel the FBO guy is one heck of a nice guy and would help us get it up and running and we also have EAA Chap. 475 there. I am Tres./Sect. and are having a meeting this week, I will bring it up as an activity for us to get involved. There is a maintance shop, fuel, an active Experimental/classic group of plane and pilots, lots of room to park, camp, and we also have a christan school that has taken to doing support for us as far as food and drink. Something to think about and only about 20 mins straight W. of Popular Grove. Larry (;f

I agree with you, I just don't know exactly how to do it. How about we start with as many of us as possible getting on the Frapper? Go to http://www.frappr.com/taylorcraftowners and put yourself and your plane on. From that we can get a better idea what the distribution of Taylorcrafts is. If we are going to start local groups we need to know how far away from each other we are.

Massey air museum has a chili flyin every spring. Its at the top of the Chesapeake bay on the eastern shore of Maryland ( See Massey Air Museum) GREAT flyin with many nice planes including Stearmans, beech 18, Staggerwing, t -crafts, on and on. Worth the trip. Good Food, nice 3000 foot grass strip with excellent approaches. End of April I think. JC
