  • Glare Shield

    Is this original? standard? common?

If not, what is original, if anything.

If so, where would I find this or something similar?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Re: Glare Shield

That's called a piping edge seam as used in sewing/upholstery. Nice touch cosmetic trim... I don't think it is original. Any upholstery shop should be able to make this for you. Many sewing machines have a "foot" attachment made for this job. Check with your favorite seamstress. My wife can whip one out for you if you tell her the fabric you want (or provide it). We can take measurements off our Tcraft if you want.

      Re: Glare Shield

That looks like the original glare shield material (kind of a leather textured cardboard material). You can get it from the auto restorers as it was used on many old cars for the "hat shelf" behind the back seat/in front of the back window.
The trim piece was originally made from a piece of "leatherette" sewn around a cotton cord. If you go to an upholstery shop without the required REALLY old guy they will show you a molded plastic stuff that comes off a roll. It works and looks good but wasn't original.
If you replace the glareshield it is a PAIN to get around the tubes smoothly. It also is very NON-water proof.
