  • T-88 Epoxy for wing spars doulbers

Has anyone used T-88 on there spars ? I am looking for info to convince my AI it's ok to use T-88 Thanks David Pinegar

I rebuilt my spar doublers using the original type glue. Considering the fact that Resorcinol has lasted over 50 years on some of these planes, why change? It's also real cheap.
The reason epoxy hasn't been approved is it has a tendency to become flexible at high temperatures like that found inside a wing on a hot runway in the summertime.

      Larry:

Agreed. In the UK, some epoxy adhesives are not permitted unless the outside skins (wwod, fabric etc) are white ( not as if we have temperature problems over here).

As long as they are not casein (milk) based, the others should be approved.

You can never convince me that T-88 could be used on a certified Taylorcraft. THAT does not "conform to Type Certificate. What is wrong with the factory process?? cheaper too!

Well sure it has a Mil-Spec but never approved by the factory or any STC to my knowledge.... It is great stuff ,easy to use BUT has the same drawbacks mentioned previously.....
How does your IA "fabricate" spars with a factory in business to produce them? or is he going to "repair" them...... then he could use a section of 43 to do that......not arguing just stating facts from the FAR's .
