    Re: old CAR data

Good information . I still have my Dad's hard copy here too! Two years ago at the Small Aircraft Directorate pow wow at Air Venture ; no body had heard of this stuff; Group II approvals, and the D.A.M.I. program ; a shame , THEY do not read their history books; neither does the President and his "team". WE, the People , need to take back our country.

      Re: old CAR data

The problem is everywhere. I just finished reading a great book on how the Centaur second stage was developed. NASA prints warehouses of books and has digital records of practically everything the space program (and things aeronautical back to WW-I) has ever done. NO ONE EVER SEEMS TO READ IT!!! There are even reports on the Taylorcraft in the Langley Research Center library!
I am doing systems engineering now and it is SO frustrating to see the new generation make the same mistakes we made in the first years. So many of those lessons are written in blood. They just don't seem to see there isn't enough time and money to make the same mistakes over and over. We have to start making NEW mistakes. If you don't repeat the old ones, the new ones are a lot less painful.
The greatest value in our past is how it can improve our future. The new Taylorcraft needs to learn from us what the old Taylorcraft(s) did wrong and right.

One does not have to be real smart to read a bit of history about the depression. What got us OUT of the depression? Was it Rush Limberger? Was it Glen (college drop out Beck?) no , it was THE GOVMINT! 70 percent of the GDP during WW 2 was Govt. spending. (you know, like tanks, planes, guns, and on and on.) FDR's programs provided MANY jobs and a roof for millions BUT WW2 was the key to recovery. We DO have to take our country BACK. From U.S. corporations that operate OUTSIDE the U.S. and pay no taxes, to banks who broke ALL the rules put in place during the Great Depression. In 1999 Phil Graham (republican) wrote a bill with his wife Wendy (she, a former board member of ENRON) which cancelled out the law(Glass-Stegall) that said banks could NOT engage in other aspects of the economy other than BANKING. They put it thu in the dead of night, mixed in with other bills and Clinton signed it. Personally, I am very pleased that Sarah Palin is Not currently Vice President as she is not qualified and not very bright. The tragedy that the current administration inherited is going to take a hell of a lot longer than a year to straighten out! (A trillion dollars of tax cuts to the wealthy and the start of TWO wars! It was truly insane and really stupid!) People like Limberger just add to the problem, getting all the hicks and non readers enraged.JC

            Hi Jim,

You should think about retracting your hick comment. I don't think it is what you really mean but you know best.

Its a cavalier comment that strikes many of us becuase of a prejudice about where we live.

You have better ways to express your frustrations with politicians and talking heads than to insult your comrades with a prejudice like that.

I am a hick, I think the comment about hicks is bad.

            Dave

Actually it wasn't the GOVMINT that brought us out of the depression, it was a war. GOVMINT doesn't provide any jobs, GOVMINT provides welfare. Boeing, General Motors, General Electric, Grumman and etc provided those jobs and the prosperity for all that followed. GOVMINT screwed it up for the 15 years preceding 1938, read your economic history. GOVMINT screwed it up this time too. Tax and spend does not create jobs, it creates welfare, which is what a GOVMINT job is. We are $12,000,000,000,000 in the hole. That's a lot of zeroes. And I would suggest just a little too much GOVMINT. Jim

                Re: old CAR data

I remember a classic quote from President Reagan.

" Be thankful you don't get all the Government you pay for"

                Ain't that the truth.

I also remember one of his speeches where he was warning of the impending debt reaching 1 trillion. He presented these facts (you can do your own math if you like) to make things clear for everyone.

" A million dollars is a stack of $1000 bills 4 inches high. A trillion dollars is a stack 26 miles high."

Thats a lot of money. Those quotes might not be word for word, but they're pretty close.

I finally read the hijacked thread that convinces me to leave this group. I already hear enough from ditto heads as it is and am tired of the constant repeat of the same info (ergo ditto). I came here for Taylorcraft info and I know all that I am going to get. Bye

                        Re: old CAR data

On Subject 1, my two cents is:

The financial and political forces that operate at and above the law in this country have gone to great effort to keep the public un-informed and dis-informed about a lot of things. So it comes as no surprise that most of us don't have the ability to know what's going on, which factions to support, and who is telling the truth.

I was raised solidly under Brand D for half of my life, and later after seeing a bunch of things as an adult I drifted further towards Brand R. But anyone who thinks that either brand is summarily better across the board is mistaken.

It was NOT a group of eco-friendly Brand D tree-huggers who conspired to stage a bloody coup and actually assassinate the President of the United States for fun and profit when I was a toddler. You can bet your arse it wasn't them.

It was likewise NOT a bunch of gun-toting, empire-building, John Wayne worshipping Brand R. intellectual scholars who crafted and built a justice and human rights system that is the best this planet has to offer, and offers the best protection for "the little guy" anywhere. The Henry Fords and corporate kings sure didn't contribute that to America.

Too much Brand D, left un-checked, results in collapse under the weight of the government, and nobody able to rise above it and prosper. Too much Brand R, left unchecked, results in a few kings, the rest of us as servants, and having to ask Darth Vader for drinking water.

And while I'm on the subject of marginally appropriate ranting and raving, I'll also say that too much political correctness, too much fear of offending someone at the cost of free speech and free thought, is every bit as un-American as racism, hate-mongering, and Communism. We have far too much concern for offending certain groups of people who themselves have no concern for offending us. There is nothing wrong with having pride and reverence for our national identity, and nothing wrong with keeping English as a mandatory requirement. If you went to Mexico of France or Madagascar or Indonesia and demanded that they change all their printed materials to English they'd throw you out on your butt.

As for Subject 2, I agree completely that this should be in a "politics" or "rants and raves" section. I'd hate to see any of us deeply offended or lose our strange internet friendship over things as divisive as politics, religion, etc. So it makes sense to me that (with the agreement of Messrs. Ollerton and Barber) this subject does not belong in the "daily Taylorcraft Discussion" section.
