  • Franklin hooligan flying

OK, it's not a Taylorcraft, but a Cub.

    Nice airshow sequence, though.

Very good routine. He can fly even if it isn't a Tcraft.

I love the taxi in on two wheels and a wingtip - had me in hysterics. Back to the good old barnstorming days of aviation - sigh.

He is a extremely good pilot and evidently young with good eyesight. Marv

Its amazing what a few extra horsepower in a light airplane can do.

I was wondering aout the wing tips too. Does he put them on the ground or just close enough to appear to be on the ground then release the smoke.

Great pictures! Super Cub! Reminds me of Duane Cole who I'm sure Forrest probably knew. He was maybe even better! Used a t-Craft. He did unreal stuff in it. jc

                  Re: Franklin hooligan flying

I'm thinking he has rubber skid pads on the wing tips perhaps... which would explain the white smoke on contact.

but what about the stresses on the wing spars? surely imposing force out at the tips like that can't be good for the spars.

                    Re: Franklin hooligan flying

He recovers the tips after every show....I looked at the tips after his routine and they were all scuffed up....there are metal skid guards under the fabric if I recall correctly. Impessive performance.

                      Hi All

Here is a link to a follow up video recently on Avweb interviewing Kyle about the routine.

Come along for the ride as Kyle Franklin explains his entertaining Super Cub comedy act and Ben Wabknoski goes flying. Franklin makes it look easy — but trus...
