  • stringers and door jams?

Looking at the wood I have to work with and was wondering about replacing it.
I am not handy with wood though.

Any of you guys made your own stringers and door jams?

Would you be interested in making another set to sell?

    Thanks....

    Aaron,

Making your own door jambs is not very difficult. If you can carefully remove the old wood, each piece can be used as a pattern. Order the wood from AC Spruce or another reputable supplier and trace out the pattern onto the new wood.

If you need to have the new pieces planed down, take them to a cabinet shop or a friend that has a planer. Use a bandsaw, or jigsaw to cut the outline.

For the mounting holes, you can either use the old piece as a guide, or put the new piece onto the airframe positioned where it need to go and drill through the brackets on the airframe.

If all of that sounds too intimidating, take your new wood to a cabinet maker with the old parts and they can copy them for you.

The peices may not be the same from one airplane to the next. They are different from pre war to post war for sure. Tom
