  • Spark plug cans

    Hi everyone,

I was asked by a mechanic about the spark plug shielding cans. Are these considered PMA approved and legal for use on a Tcraft with an A-65?

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Re: Spark plug cans

I am not sure about the appproval but I have cans on the top plugs on my A65 in my BC12. My radio reception and transmissions are crystal clear and I don't have any bumps on the top cowling.

I would think the cans would be considered standard parts and PMA is not required. Just like light bulbs and hardware.

Where do you get the cans and which spark plugs do you use with them?

Fresno Air Parts at KFCH have the cans. They always have an ad in Trade A Plane. I can't recall which plugs I use. If I get to the airport tomorrow I will check.

You know, there was an article on how to build your own cans in one of the newsletters. somewhere. If you decide to DIY, I may be able to locate a copy - MikeH

I used to use these cans but now I use UREM37BY plugs. They're shorter than the REM40E plugs that most of us use.

C-26's or M41E, both non-resistor and short. M41's tend to jam in the bottom relief of the cans on mine. Real pain. C-26's are hard to find.
